High School
Westminster Christian School is committed to providing a quality educational
program that prepares our students for the rigors of college and life
while providing each student with a Christian environment in which
to develop and strengthen their Christian worldview. WCS students
will be challenged in an academic setting that maximizes each student's
intellectual capacity while instilling into each student the necessary
work ethic for success. WCS will assist each student in the development
of their Christian worldview while providing a venue for students
to move from a faith rooted in the family to a faith that becomes
their own.
The high school offers classes in a traditional seven period day.
The schedule provides a flex period for all students to use as they
choose. Teachers may also use the flex period for lab or extra help
sessions. Each class meets for 50 minutes every day. A college preparatory
diploma is earned by any student that completes the 25 Carnegie
units required for graduation.
In addition to our core classes, students have options like band,
chorus, art, physical education, and a variety of other elective
choices. Our high school also offers Honors and AP courses to students
that qualify. All students are required to accumulate 4 community
service points to graduate as well. These can be earned by attending
the school sponsored service Fridays where the school provides students
the opportunity to serve the community.
Students have many exciting events to anticipate during the course
of an academic year; two of the more exciting ones are the homecoming
week and the high school trips. Our homecoming is a week filled
with communal events culminating with a homecoming basketball game
featuring an ending formal event. The next night all high school
students and guests are invited to a dinner reception and gathering
commemorating the end of homecoming week.
There are two high school trips scheduled every year for our high
school students. One trip is a cultural and historic trip taken
to one of four U.S. cities; the other trip is a mission-oriented
trip taken to Jamaica. Our goal for these trips is to expose our
students to the world in which they live and prepare them to be
in the world but not of the world.
