Elementary School
Westminster Christian School provides an education that academically
excellent and Biblically-based, in a safe and supportive environment.
Our goal is to provide an environment that is both nurturing and stimulating
to the students. We desire to partner with each family and the Holy
Spirit in the development of each student's God-given ability in order
to reach each student's fullest potential. To do this, Westminster
Christian School promotes and develops the mindset of betterment in
all members of the school community in order to avoid any form of
stagnation.
Our Elementary School strives to provide a program that incorporates
quality as well as the love and compassion of our faith. All teachers
are either degreed or certified and are involved in our ongoing
professional development program. Our K4 and K5 programs are generally
limited to 10-12 students per class with a paraprofessional assigned
to each grade level up to first grade. Grades 2nd - 4th grade are
limited to 16-18 students per class with each grade having two classes.
Our elementary students experience a wide variety of educational
opportunities. Internal opportunities include umbrella parades and
international food day; external opportunities include field trips
to a zoo or the park. Research points out that movement and learning
are linked in the brain therefore our students will experience quite
a bit of movement in addition to normal classroom requirements.
In addition to our regular activities, elementary students will
experience computer class, music, art, and physical education where
they will learn many things including jumping rope.
We also offer after school care which is offered in the form extended
classroom experience. We call the program Extended Care for the
purpose of declaring that this time is structured in a way to extend
learning from normal class time to extended time. Each student will
be given a time to do homework as well as a time to make and be
active with friends.
As a school we believe we are also called to partner with the family
and the family's church to assist the spiritual development of each
child. Bible is a regular part of each grade's core curriculum because
we believe strongly that God's word will not come back void and
it should be hidden in every child's heart. In Bible classes, students
are provided with many opportunities to learn and apply biblical
truth to their lives. Regular class instruction, planned activities,
and our chapel program all provide students opportunities to grow
in their faith.
